Odour control and management in the Doha sewerage network in Qatar
Nick Jones of Odournet UK Ltd has recently completed a project supporting the government of Qatar to manage odours from their sewerage networks in Doha.
Nick acted as the subject matter expert for a team comprising Metito and Douro ECI, and was commissioned by the O&M department of the Qatar Public Works Authority, Ashghal. The project involved an extensive survey of the sewerage network and hydraulic review conducted over a period of 15 months. On the basis of this survey, odour control solutions were defined comprising a range of enhancements to the network assets and strategic installation of 6 no. air phase odour treatment systems. A continuous odour monitoring system was also installed to support the O&M department proactively manage odour risk
Nick’s contribution involved the design of the survey and odour risk assessment methodology, root cause analysis, and advice regarding the specification and location of odour control systems. Nick also provided advice on location of continuous odour monitors and development of an operational philosophy for the continuous monitoring system and integration of the system into the clients work flow processes.
