PRA Odournet
BV
PRA Odournet produced a feasibility study for developing a
method for assessing odour annoyance potential, as part of
a government program in the Netherlands to improve the quality
of measurements aimed at environmental impact assessment (1999,
English summary available on internet www.odournet.com).
PRA Odournet carried out a major epidemiological dose-effect
study to establish acceptable exposure to pig production odours
in the Netherlands, commissioned by the Dutch Ministry of
Public Housing, Planning and the Environment (VROM).
The PRA Odournet laboratory (Olfaktolab) in Amsterdam is accredited
by the Netherlands Calibration Organisation as a testing and
calibration laboratory for odour concentration measurements
(certificate K077, 1993, now L403).
The PRA Odournet laboratory (Olfaktolab) is accredited by
the Netherlands Calibration Organisation as a calibration
laboratory for dilution equipment in the range of 4 to 100.000
dilution factor (certificate K077, 1993).
PRA Odournet contributed to the scientific committee for the
drafting of the ‘Measurement and Calculation Manual’
for odour emission measurements, that is used as a de-facto
guideline in the Netherlands and was commissioned by the Dutch
Ministry of Public Housing, Planning and the Environment (VROM).
Odournet (PRA BV) developed the methodology for tracer calibration
of olfactometers as part of the Dutch standardisation of olfactometry.
The research was commissioned and funded by the Ministry of
Public Housing, Planning and the Environment (VROM).
Odournet (PRA BV) has conducted industry wide studies to produce
‘Branch specific manuals for odour emissions control’.
To name a few: Meat packing industry, Leather tanning industry.
PRA conducts over 200 odour surveys a year in a wide variety
of industrial sources.

levels for odour nuisance to quantitative objectives and the
application of this method for five pilot-sectors (2001 –
2002).
PRG has formulated evaluation criteria for inspecting authorities
to evaluate odour complaints, manual for local authorities
to treat complaints (2002).
