product optimisation and material testing

Our senses help us decide about the desirable and less desirable properties of products and materials.

Sensory analysis, especially the assessment of odour concentration, helps to optimise your product both on the level of perception and costs. Odournet can assist in assessing and optimising the sensory attributes of products and materials and to monitor the sensory quality of your product. We can assess how your product is perceived, in particular its odour, using trained or naive sensory panels.

Using molecular analysis we can also find the reasons behind this perception, using high definition GC-MS and GC-MS sniffing.

A range of standard techniques are used, and bespoke tests are designed routinely:

  • Dynamic olfactometry, odour intensity and hedonic tone tests, using 'representative' and 'trained' panels
  • Headspace sniffing tests, using expert panels with standardised olfactory acuity
  • GC-MS and GC-MS sniffing, combining GC separation with sensory
    analysis
  • Field research (in-use tests)
  • Online surveys and instant SMS text message surveys

Recent examples of product and material testing involve automobile
parts, natural gas odorisation, deodorants, personal hygiene and
sanitary products, incontinence control products, electrical equipment,
electronics parts, textiles, household appliances etc.
