Measurement
of specific chemical compounds using GC-MS
When designing an odour abatement strategy, or reviewing the
available techniques for controlled odours, it is often useful
to characterise the odour generated in terms of specific odorous
compounds (e.g. hydrogen sulphide, mercaptans, indoles, etc)
or groups of compounds (e.g. amines, aldehydes, ketones, sulphides,
organic acids).
Odournet offers a full service for collection and analysis of
odours in this way, from provision of specialist sampling staff
for on site collection of samples, to provision of sampling
pumps and equipment for collection by third parties. Sampling
can be conducted either ‘in bag’, or by concentration onto a
sorbent polymer (i.e. Tenax TA).
Analytical capabilities are offered by the Project Research
Gent laboratory. The laboratory operates a state of the art
Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) analyser that has
been set-up specifically for the purpose of identification and
quantification of odorous chemicals. Services include:
Full scan
of air samples to identify all potentially odorous compounds.
Selective
scan to identify specific odorous compounds or groups of compounds.
