Margrethe Bongers joined PRA OdourNet BV in
1997. She is a senior consultant for agricultural and industrial odour pollution
issues, and is responsible for acquisition, design and coordination of odour
studies. These studies involve all aspects, including emission and ambient
measurements, source characterisation, dispersion modelling, direct annoyance
surveys using telephone polling, field panel assessments, emission reduction
programmes and systems choice for odour reduction.
In 1999/2000 she was project manager
for an inquiry directed by the Ministry of Public Health, Planning and
Environment (VROM) with the objective of providing a scientific basis for
establishing air quality criteria for pig odours, for regulatory application.
This involved a large-scale study into the relationship between exposure to pig
odours and annoyance in the exposed population.
Before joining PRA, she was
successively employed by dgmr raadgevende ingenieurs bv in The
Hague, in the domain of acoustics and environmental permits, and at the waste
processing company Van Vliet Contrans in Wateringen, as an environmental
coordinator.
Margrethe Bongers (1968) was educated
as an environmental engineer at the Van Hall Institute, that awarded her the
title ‘Ingenieur’ (Ing.) for studies in environmental technology in 1994.
In preparation for her thesis she
participated in a project on industrial waste prevention and waste water
treatment in Mozambique, carried out by the University of Maputo in cooperation
with the University of Technology Delft (The Netherlands).
