Frans Vossen

 Frans Vossen, Consultancy Director PRA Odournet BV.
Frans Vossen joined Project Research Amsterdam BV in February 1989 as a senior odour consultant. He expanded the consultancy activities with great energy since, and is now a partner and director of PRA Odournet BV.

Frans main focus is on his clients, and as the senior consultant he is in charge of all industrial odour consultancy. In this position he is responsible for acquisition, design and coordination of major odour studies. These studies involve all aspects, including emission measurements, source characterisation, dispersion modelling, direct annoyance surveys using telephone polling, field panel assessments, emission reduction programmes and systems choice for odour reduction systems.

Through conducting large number of odour projects over the years, he has acquired a unique in-depth knowledge on odour management for industries including: rendering, meat packaging and slaughtering, municipal and industrial water treatment, petroleum refining, food processing, rayon manufacture, breweries, composting, mushroom growing, sludge processing etc.

Before joining PRA he worked for five years as an environmental consultant at an engineering firm, Witteveen en Bos Raadgevend Ingenieurs BV, in charge of air quality studies. A major part of his work there consisted of odour studies. In this position he directed a considerable number (20 to 25) of studies on water treatment facilities, under the supervision of professor J. H. L. A. de Graaff, Technical University of Delft.

Frans Vossen, born in 1958, trained as a biologist at the University of Utrecht. He obtained his Doctorandus title, equivalent to an M.Sc., in 1984.

Mr Ton van Harreveld

 Mr Ton van Harreveld, chairman, Odournet group of companies.
Ton van Harreveld is founder and chairman of the Odournet group. His operational activities include consultancy on policy issues, international marketing, quality control and R&D supervision.

Odournet specialises in all aspects of environmental odour annoyance and conducts many hundreds of odour related surveys each year. Several thousands of odour samples are collected and analysed in two accredited Odournet laboratories to provide supporting data. Odournet employs a staff of about 30 in four European countries.

Odournet develops and markets instruments and associated software for odour sampling and measurement. Olfaktomat-n olfactometers are installed in laboratories worldwide.
Ton was closely associated with developing the Dutch NV2820 olfactometry standard and is convenor for the working group CEN/TC264/WG2 ‘Dynamic Olfactometry’ that has now finalised the European CEN standard prEN 13725 Air Quality – Measurement of odour concentration using dynamic olfactometry.

As a senior consultant he recently completed major scientific review reports to support policy development for livestock odours by the Irish EPA and the H4 Horizontal IPPC Guidance on Odour for the Environment Agency (UK). Previously he headed a team to prepare a feasibility study for developing a method for odour annoyance potential measurement for the Dutch government.

Ton and his family now live in Barcelona, Spain, where he directs the smallest company in the group, Odournet S.L.
